Live to your Living Room is one of six organisations that will be testing and reviewing Culture Central’s new Charter for Equity.
Culture Central, a collective voice for arts, music, and culture across the West Midlands, has developed the charter to ensure the culture sector is accessible to everyone, especially those who are underrepresented in the sector.
Arts and culture organisations across the region had the opportunity to apply to take part in the pilot, with Live to your Living Room being one of the successful six, alongside:
- That! Dance CIC
- Black Country Touring
- Stourbridge Glass Museum
- Open Theatre
- The Royal Shakespeare Company
The Charter for Equity outlines a set of principles and commitments that cultural organisations can adopt to promote equity, fair treatment, and inclusion.
As part of the pilot, Culture Central and the pilot organisations will focus on three key themes: inequality and oppression, material working conditions, and agency and power.
Following an induction session on 10 March, Live to your Living Room and the other pilot organisations will test all elements of the charter through self-assessment, action learning, and peer review, offering feedback and identifying areas for improvement.
Cat McGill, Co-founder and Creative Director at Live to your Living Room said: “We’re delighted to be chosen as one of the pilot organisations to road-test the Charter for Equity.
“At Live to your Living Room, we’re committed to improving equity of access to the arts. Not only by providing high-quality livestreamed music gigs to people who may not be able to attend events in person, but also by helping venues curate inclusive events through our ONEAudience initiative.
“We’re looking forward to helping to finesse and develop the charter, learning from Culture Central, as well as from our peers in the industry.”
